delays. gabe gutierrez is in atlanta. you're watching the entire country and newark, one of the spots. >> reporter: that's right, richard. it's not too bad in atlanta right now. it's actually moving around pretty well. certainly nothing like a widespread cancellation that we saw on thursday and friday, but as you mentioned there are minor headaches up in the northeast. wind is proving to be a problem in newark right now. we are told there is an average of 45-minute delay there due to wind and wind also delayed flights in washington earlier today. washington dulles, and it was a problem there and we are told that started to clear up and in the midwest, kansas city had long lines, as well and out west, rain slowed down some of the air traffic and san francisco this morning. a lot of people that were paying attention to the weather reports said nearly one in four americans will travel in the next few days and they'll be taking advantage of the longer break with christmas and new year's both falling on a tuesday this year. back here in atlanta, travelers here are thankful that it is not q

sandy, but one of them is going so far above and beyond that it's almost nuts. newark mayor cory booker has been inviting people to his house. he tweeted this yesterday to a newark resident who asked him for help. he said, there's someone at my house now, eric, i've got space you can relax in, charge devices and even a working dvd player. come by, @myserenelove. this either makes him the coolest or creepiest mayor ever. i'm not sure. he's either extremely generous or one of his friends is playing an awesome practical joke on him right now. around a dozen strangers showed up at his house yesterday. they watched movies, they ordered food. some of them slept over. i think he had more than 30 people over at his house tonight. we're actually thinking about having our after party at the mayor's house in newark. good for him. delays. new york and laguardia, ground stop. philadelphia, newark, two and a half hour delays and the predominance and problem here, the winds. philadelphia gusting to 30 miles per hour. new york, 33 miles per hour gusts. so that's really part of the problem because the big cities aren't seeing snow accumulation. they're seeing heavy rain with the wind. here's a snapshot. in central park, gusting to 31 miles an hour. all the way from cleveland to indy, 20 to 30-mile-an-hour gusts and new york gets in the potential 50, 55-mile-an-hour gusts tonight. exacerbating are those winds. so here's the big picture. the good news though, we've seen things clear out. in illinois, indiana, even into ohio. you see those kind of holes in the radar, the dark white showing where the heaviest snow is. but see those dry pockets now? all that is lifting out. still wet here along the 95 cory -- corridor but all the snow we certainly saw a lot. so in southeastern illinois, 18 inches. bloomfield, indiana, 11. evansville, 10, indy, 7.2. paducah, kentucky, 4.6. so certainly, a lot of strong storms with

's what is making travel so perilous. whether it is the winds in newark or laguardia now or just rain slowing things down, or these winds gusting to 30 in chicago, 23 in nashville, gusting to 45 earlier in indianapolis. it is the winds that are making travel so perilous and so dangerous and impacting the roads and the airports. blizzard warnings here from central indiana to ohio. again, that means the snow coupled with the winds. but look at this, 12 inches, a foot plus of snow possible in western new york. the worst of it tonight until tomorrow in new york state. and then we will begin to see this move out. hefty total of snow. here is the movement as we head toward early tomorrow. you see new york, new york state ensconced in snow. western pennsylvania as well. then by thursday morning, it is still there, and into maine and finally pushes all out. so victor, we're not done with this here. we have another two days, good news all the severe threat coming to an end by tonight and snow still a factor with the winds. >> rough weather on the start of the christmas travel season. rough wea

one involving a dreamliner that had to make an emergency landing. it was flying from houston to newark, new jersey. it had to turn and it had to make an emergency landing in new orleans and united crew reporting mechanical problem. they delivered the dreamliner two weeks ago. boeing technical team is right now in new orleans investigating the problem along with united teams. they'll have an update later today hopefully. boeing coming out and saying that it expects faa to mandate what it's been pushing its customers to do for some time requiring fuel line checks for the dreamliner. checking the installation of two connectors and half of the dreamliners have already been inspected according to boeing. we expect the faa to make this a mandatory requirement later on today. by the way, almost 40 dreamliners have been put in service in the last year. boeing recently increased dreamliner production from 3.5 to 5 per month. production is still on track to reach the goal of ten per month by the beginning of 2014. no reaction today on shares of boeing. these are the teething pains that go along

. the newark star ledger in new jersey reporting that governor chris christie is going to ask the federal government to reimburse the state for 100% of the cost of rebuilding from superstorm sandy. christie heads to washington on thursday to meet with federal officials. you know, parts of the new jersey coastline, complete devastated by this powerful storm. you know, governor christie estimates that sandy caused upwards of $20 billion of damages. >>> and the atlanta journal-constitution with more information about dozens of children and adults that were sickened by carbon monoxide poisoning at the local school there. at least 49 people were sent to the hospital yesterday. take a look at this. fire officials believe the heating system failed there. finch elementary had no carbon monoxide detectors, either. which, i guess, they're not required in georgia. and many parents complained they were left in the lurch because of poor communication. soledad o'brien will talk to a student, a parent and also a school official. so we'll get lots of sides there. >> also coming up, amazement and dismay.

now, chairman of the department of medicine at newark beth israel medical center. what do you make of it? >> well, he's 88 years old. this is a president who's been in exceptionally good health. i mean, he jumps out of airplanes at the age of 85 which i thought was an absolutely amazing guy. i can recall his illnesseses over his life which included a thyroid problem, you remember when he was president. one worries about an 88-year-old who comes in with trach yo bronchitis with a chronic cough, perhaps a low-grade fever. gregg: what does that mean, pneumonia? >> yeah, well, it could mean knew known ya. bronchitis is an inin mission of the tubes that go into the lung, and you have trouble clearing mucus. you have trouble coughing, and coughing causes a lot of problems, so pneumonia is a possibility. and then when you're that old, you run the risk of a blood infection, and that can be lethal for somebody over the age of 75. gregg: what happens? >> it'll cause organ failure, and it is often times fatal. so i think the doctors are playing it safe. put him on antibiotics -- gregg: right.
